Mediation. Arbitration. Investigations.
Handled with care.
For nearly 25 years, I practiced employment and labour law, acted as a workplace investigator, and served as an employment mediator and arbitrator. My clients have included employers, employees, and trade unions. I have encountered various perspectives and navigated sometimes competing motivations to arrive at outcomes that have benefited multiple parties.
Acting as a neutral has proven to be particularly satisfying. It allows me to get to know the parties and their issues, to exercise my "law brain" as I analyze how best to assist the parties, and to see the positive outcome of our collective efforts.
My approach to mediation and arbitration is informed by my years of litigation experience. I have appeared before all levels of Ontario court and administrative tribunal, including the Federal Court and the Ontario Court of Appeal. My experience allows me to understand the costs and rigors associated with litigation from the perspectives of all parties involved. Importantly, it has ensured I can grasp the underlying motivations driving resolution.
I have contributed to and been quoted in a variety of publications including: the Toronto Star, Canadian HR Reporter, Canadian Employment Law Today, the Workplace News, the Law Times, and the Canadian Safety Reporter.
I was repeatedly listed in Best Lawyers Canada and Best Law Firms in Canada in the areas of Labour and Employment and Workers Compensation Law. I was often listed in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory for my work in Occupational Health and Safety law. I was recognized as a Five Star Safety Lawyer by Canadian Occupational Safety Magazine and identified as an Acritis Star by Thomson Reuters.
I look forward to meeting the parties.
